Born 1957 and purchased by Shimer College for transporting the school marching band.
The original sales receipt, in the amount of $22,616.00, is still with the bus.

Shimer College sold the bus in 1961, with approximately 40,000 miles on it to a private party who
had the first professional motorhome conversion done on the vehicle.
Original conversion was done by "Custom Coach" of Ohio, still one of the premier coachbuilders.
Original blueprints of the interior motorhome floorplans are included.
Other than the College, which owned the bus for only 4 years,
this Starliner was never used as a commercial bus.
Since 1961, it has lived its life as a privately owned motorhome.

And a bit more history...

Well, here's the story...
A very good friend of mine, Bobb Partridge, purchased this Starliner
in 1989 from the third owner.
And, as I imagine is true of nearly all new Flxy owners, Bobb proceeded to put his lifeblood into his new baby.
During the course of his ownership,
over and above his purchase price,
Bobb
invested in excess of $40,000 into mechanical upgrades, new parts, a new kitchen, and other additions,

Here she is around 1995

Bobb owned the bus until 1997, when he sold to a buyer who ultimately did NOT do the bus justice.
The new owner began "re-doing" portions of the interior and, over the course of the winter,
ended up frying the vehicle's 110 wiring system. Subsequently, Bobb ended up repossessing the bus.
Shortly thereafter, Bobb had some health issues that prevented him from fixing the problems that
were inflicted to the bus during the short period it was out of his possession.
The bus then sat for 6 years without being driven.
Bobb contacted me in the Spring of 2005 and, k
nowing how much I admired his Flxy,
asked if I had any desire to be the next owner of his bus.
Without hesitation, I agreed.

Bob and his Flxy were located in Massachusetts, about 200 miles south of me.
This past summer (2005), I asked Bobb if he would be willing to attempt a start-up of the bus,
possibly enabling me to drive the bus back north to my place.
First attempt at starting resulted in smoke coming from beneath the vehicle.
Key off, Battery disconnect... we contacted a quality wrecker service and
had the Flxy transported to my place in New Hampshire, where she now sits.

With the help of my friend, Stan Harrison (MIT genius, electrical engineer),
I am currently in the process of mapping the entire electrical system,
both 12 volt and 110. This task is a vital step in the process of
getting the Flxy started and back on the road.
Intitial start-up of the bus is forthcoming,
currently awaiting completion of the electrical mapping process
(being done in whatever spare time each of us can find),

Mechanically...

Bobb assures me that the mechanics of this Flxy are very solid, although,
after 6 years of sitting in Bobb's yard, and as of today, I have yet to start and drive the vehicle myself.
Bobb says the bus "drives like a dream", although with a 471, he admits,
" it's not the fastest rig on the road",
It's 55-60 mph, but you can't complain about 12 - 14 mpg!!
Brakes are all good, suspension has all been refurbished shortly before the rig was parked.
Brand new rear Torsion Bars, Frontend rebuilt. Good rubber. Alcoa Alloy Rims.
I have no doubt that this bus is very good, mechanically.

Interior...

I have provided a page with a few pics of the interior.
Bobb was quite a fan of "top end" aplliances, gadgets, bells & whistles.
And he spared nothing when upgrading the interior of this coach...
However, for the brief period the bus was not in his possession, much of the interior was altered, moved or removed.
All the original "yacht style" interior walls and partitions installed by "Custom Coach" remain intact.
The basics are there... but maybe not hooked up and running...
kitchen sink, gas stove, refrigerator, dishwasher, garbage disposal, trash compactor, etc.

Bobb's white shag carpeting has been removed, as well as the curtains, seat cushions, etc.
Also, there is the classic, very minor, leak towards the center of the "vista" window.
The interior definitely needs some TLC. The degree of re-hab would depend entirely on the taste of the owner.

Body...

There is no "major" rot on the body or the frame and undercarriage.
There are many spots of bubbling and peeled paint and
"a few" small spots of actual rot (from inside out).
Pete Snidal, of
Flxible Owners International offered the following comment,

"What is required now is a complete bead or soda blast down to bare metal,
with windows and trim removed, and a careful etching prime and paint
in ideal dry conditions. $5-10K at a professional body shop.

I have provided a page with a few pics of the body. and will be adding
more pics within the next few days (10/25/05).

Price...

I am asking $15,000 in "as is" condition, FOB Bethlehem, NH.
or
$18 - $20,000 in drive home condition (but possibly not until spring '06).

THIS STARLINER
IS SOLD
(December 22 2005)

This is as far as I have gotten with my description of the bus,
in an effort to provide at least some answers to the many requests I have had.

I am more than happy to answer any specific questions.
And intend to add any additional info as it comes to me.
My main goal is to find the right owner for this beautiful Starliner.
