CANE TOAD
Bufo Marinus

Introduced to Australia by the
sugar cane industry to control two
major pests of sugar cane
(the Grey Backed Cane Beetle &
the Frenchis Beetle).
In June of 1935, one hundred and one
toads arrived at Edmonton
in North Queensland.

Unseasonal breeding occurred and
within 6 months the cane toad
population had reached
over 60,000!
